Ah, it's awards season in Lala land, kicked off by the Golden Globes. It's amazing that the same awards shows happen year after year, with largely the same faces, yet we never tire of the relentless red carpet coverage.
Red carpet styling seems a little tricky. It's a very fine line between formal vs. prom-ready, fashion-forward vs. try-hard and classic vs. boring. Below are some of my favorite looks of the night.
First off, let's get this out of the way. Julia Roberts wore my single most favorite wardrobe item (the classic white shirt) on the Red Carpet. What do we think about this? I know I always say that this classic piece goes almost anywhere, but here's where I draw the line. If you're going to do a shirt on the red carpet, do it á la Carolina Herrera or not at all.
Julia Roberts' goes business formal with Dolce & Gabbana.
Uma Thurman in Versace. Hot damn.
Sofia Vergera's red carpet style is formulaic to say the least, but I'm obsessed with this Lorraine Schwartz collar. The Zac Posen dress is pretty hot, if not exciting.
Allison Williams in Alexander McQueen. Simple. Nailed it!
Paging Peggy Olsen... no? Not here? Elizabeth Moss in J. Mendel.
Amy Adams in Valentino. Love, love this color combo.
How sweet is this Georges Hobieka Couture gown? The braid is a-dor-able.
Aubrey Plaza's Oscar De La Renta looks like a color combination I would have selected in the third grade, and I mean that in the best way possible!
Mila Kunis in Gucci. Yes, we remember Black Swan, yes you're still smokin' hot.
Kate Mara in J. Mendel. Oh, hi, you're a movie star!
Belles of the ball (gowns)
Kaley Couco in Rani Zakhem. Why so glum you gorgeous goth princess?
JLaw in Dior. Yep!
(Dons Dior every damn day... bless.)
So Helen Mirren is 60++ and wearing matchy-matchy Jenny Packham, yet still looks far from grandmotherly. Good one!
Oliva Wilde in Gucci.
Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhullier.
Two completely different, equally stunning red carpet maternity looks. Wow!
