Getting engaged is awesome. Thinking about a wedding? Not so much.
Don't get me wrong, I love love love planning. I have spreadsheets for almost everything, and had many for my wedding. Flower and font selections are truly things I care about, as is planning a beautiful event for my friends and family to enjoy. It's just that prior to being engaged, it was not something I spent much time thinking about. By the time I was engaged I had no clue where to start.
Enter Carats and Cake.
Carats and Cake surveys couples from all over the world to get all of the nitty gritty details of their weddings. Things you might be embarrassed to ask anyone other than a close friend (where's the ring from?! Who did the flowers?). Said couples are also given the ability to rate each vendor which in turn creates an amazing resource for finding local vendors all over the country.
It's the brain child of Jess Levin, who by the ripe old age of 29 had transformed the wedding industry. When asked about her start, the entrepreneur is most humble:
"After spending 3 years working in venture capital, I realized I didn’t know enough about finance to truly be successful, so I went back to business school with the plan to return to VC. I didn’t go to business school thinking I would build a company and end up on the other side of the table.
However, I was wrong and a case study about the diamond industry would ultimately help me discover the opportunity in the wedding space that would become Carats & Cake.
The biggest obstacle is probably taking the leap and actually dedicating yourself to building something full time. At the moment, I am most proud of my team and what we have accomplished together. We are really dedicated to empowering the wedding industry and helping the half a million local entrepreneurs that make up the space, and in the last few months we have had some pretty amazing small wins. I am all about celebrating the small wins."
Small wins are great and all, Jess, but it seems that you've also had some pretty big ones. We wish you many more.
