So-called investment shopping
There's nothing I hate more than the phrase "investment shopping" when it comes to one's wardrobe. Sure, you might have some great pieces, but they're not investments unless someone's going to buy them. Ideally, for more than what you paid.
I much prefer "wardrobe staples" or "classics". You know, those pieces you buy and wear until they're basically threadbare. The ones that seem to suit every season and every occasion.
At The Thread, we're always on the lookout for these pieces. We're big believers in buying quality once and holding out until you find something you truly love that can be styled many different ways.
The three-season dress
For example, this burgundy leather dress from Acne is perfectly suited for late summer and it will even take you into autumn and winter.
I love the seriously plunging neckline that's going to be beyond sexy on the weekends, but would also look great layered over a slim knit or silk shirt. The flared hem keeps the overall look from being too sexy and the burgundy shade is also a bit unexpected and a welcome change in a sea of LBDs. It's a great shade that's going to look so rich for seasons to come.
Wear it now - sexy styling for summer nights
Burgundy and gold are a natural pairing, but I love how this dress looks with gunmetal and gray suede. The textures look sumptuous making the overall effect very cool. I adore this look, but please don't forget the double stick tape!

Wear it later - pair with cool girl basics for the office
THIS is how you wear leather to the office, and somehow manage to look positively conservative. Wear this and channel a modern-day cool-girl Mary Tyler Moore.
