Friday Find: Anniesa Hasibuan Hijab style

modest fashion inspiration

Propelling the hijab into the gutsy world of high fashion, little known Indonesian designer Anniesea Hasibaun rocked fashion to its foundations this week with a breakthrough collection of luxurious Muslim ensembles.

Shattering stereotypes with her fiercely feminine capsule collection, the world’s most stylish stage got a fresh new feel at this season’s NYFW.

Taking her rightful place in between catwalk veterans, Anniesa Hasibuan’s silky swathes of modest headwear and glitter-adorned separates celebrated a new generation of style-conscious Muslim millennials. Proving that power dressing comes in all forms, her Emirati-inspired collection of designer delights skilfully bridges the gap between east meets west sensibilities.

A metallic adorned offering of covetable maxi dresses, floral embellished capes and sexy shirts, the Jakarta-based designer was not only the first Indonesian woman to show at NYFW – but the first to finish to a standing ovation…

Redefining high fashion for the cash rich and style hungry Muslim community, Anniesa is broadening our fashion narrative with a multi-ethnic, multi-spiritual and culturally liberated approach to everyday dressing. Part of a growing market specialising in the wants and needs of the faith & fashion style tribe, many established fashion houses have already bucked the trend with designers like Dolce & Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta creating Ramadan collections.

So with designs so fabulous they rose Anna Wintour from her front row throne, it begs the question – why aren’t more designers celebrating middle-eastern style?

Here at VAUGHAN HQ, we hope this is the start of something BIG, that’s why this week we’re celebrating Anniesa’s move into the mainstream with this ode to stunning hijab design.

Inspired by high-summer elegance and detailed decadence, layers of luxurious fabric make for a fabulous light layering ensemble. Using pastel hues and bright whites, this rich mix of silken voiles perfectly underpins the VAUGHAN design DNA.

Using our Cassie pussy bow blouse as a base layer, this elegant ensemble ticks all the fashion boxes thanks to its high neckline and designer feel. Worn with a single tuck, our bright white silk shirt adds a dramatic edge to this split seam kaftan. Paired with a simple slip or drainpipe jeans, this light peach melba embroidered maxi dress is the perfect antidote to heavy abayas and drab colourways.

Styled with a multi-functional pastel silk scarf, this chiffon wrap can be worn in a multitude of ways, accessorized as a classic hijab to frame the face, lazily placed on the shoulders, used as a headscarf or even popped on the handle of a tote, this Italian-sourced accessory is as versatile as you are.

Finished off with a pair of killer suede strappy heels and a matching metallic city shopper, this all-encompassing front row teaser is a future fashion ensemble designed for today’s intermixed runway vanguard.
