Short listing the biggest breakthrough brands into a select few is no mean feat, especially when prize money worth $300,000 and a high profile career hangs in the balance. That’s why the LVMH line up has become one of the most nail-biting fashion moments of the year.
Now down to the wire, months before they show at the iconic ‘Fondation Louis Vuitton’ in Paris, all eyes turned to the 21 contestants gearing up for their chance to change their livelihoods with the prestigious LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. But, then again, when you meet contender Yoon Ahn aka Ambush, you realise not all designers are created equal.
Showcasing to an international audience since 2008, Yoon's take on Tokyo via NYC represents a fierce fashion aesthetic with a fresh new attitude. Devoid of gender, size or shapes dictated to who you are, the high luxe husband and wife brand IS apparel for the masses.
Created out of a concept that blends heavy metal detailing with wearable luxury, what started out as a jewellery line has now transformed into an androgynous prêt à porter brand - making Yoon Ahn one of only two unisex designers in the competition.
A strong street style influencer with collaborations from the likes of Louis Vuitton, Maison Kitsuné and Sacai already under her belt, she’s already been listed among Business of Fashion’s Top 500 People influencing the global fashion industry in 2016, and is also rumoured to be working with Shu Uemura on a new beauty capsule collection this spring.
Giving us serious style on fleek, we couldn’t think of any better LMVH designer darling to represent this week.
Owning the kerbside with her attitude-inducing looks and heavy metal adornment, Yoon Ahn and her rapper husband, Verbal dominate the underground scene with their pan-global approach to conceptual street wear. Pairing boyfriend leather jackets with thigh high boots and chainmail jewellery, Yoon is the badass b*tch we all secretly want to be.
With dressing to impress not much of an issue for this gunmetal girl with a side of rapper swagger, every day includes a tightly packed schedule of collection showcases, collaborative meetings, oh and a cameo in a music video – you know, if she has time.
That’s why her wardrobe reads like a who’s who of stone cold American brands and Japanese subculture labels. Repping a look that can only be described as sex appeal with a side of rock chic, this outfit in honour of our new favourite runway maverick offers oversized silhouettes and sultry styling.
Starting with the foundation of any post-punk ensemble, we’ve styled this OTT biker jacket with distressed denim and our Hepburn white silk shirt - worn with a lace bralette or sporty tank top underneath, this looks screams rage against the machine. Try accessorising with iconic chunky jewellery from the Ambush collection and decorate with multi-chain side epaulettes and bleached blonde locks. We’ve styled this front row combo with python embossed ankle boots and a link and chain leather bag for added effect.
Take a lesson in being bad from the reigning queen of cool, Yoon Ahn - win, lose or draw the LMVH prize, she is set to rule global prêt à porter, now.
