Help! How do I style my corner office tastes on my cubicle budget?!

chic suiting

Lessons in feeling fabulous, getting what you want, and otherwise not giving a damn from our in-house stylist and resident agony aunt, Auntie Kiki

Dear Auntie Kiki,

I have just landed an amazing new job in the city and I’m thinking about a total work wardrobe overhaul. The office is full of fierce females and I’m afraid my polyester two-piece just won’t cut the mustard. I want a statement outfit I can mix and match that won’t cost me a full month’s paycheck, any advice?

Nervous in NYC

Dear Nervous in NYC,

You’re one corner desk away from ruling the whole office – own it.

Power suiting is the new buzz word around the steno pool and you need to arrive dressed for success.

What the hell am I talking about?

I’m talking about attention-grabbing two-pieces that define your office demeanour.

This is no time to embrace your inner wall flower, you’ve proved to your employers that you’re the right person for the job, now you just need to convince everyone else (insert gulp) – especially if you’re working with some potentially bitchy new colleagues.

The best advice I can give you is to go with your gut – something you can wear comfortably and confidently that will keep you looking fabulous from your first Powerpoint presentation to casual Friday cocktails.

Whilst black is boring and polyester is downright paltry, I suggest you do yourself a favour and inject a spectrum of colour into your 9-5 with a rebooted suit. Borrowing from a palette of contrasting shades and hues, vibrant formals are the new power look for the season ahead. One outfit that is ideal for your entrée into a new working environment is a strong monochromatic two-piece. Cut in luxurious fabrics that champion the traditions of tailoring, stand out silhouettes and unconventional colourings add a touch of perky insouciance to stuffy shirting and weary work wear.

This pastel pink two-piece from Raey is an investment with serious versatility and instant runway credentials. A comfortable longline blazer with tortoiseshell buttons, this casual silhouette has been beautifully tailored to elongate the body with a relaxed allure. Styled with the matching low slung, wide leg pants, this duo perfectly accentuates a practical yet playful ode to traditional menswear.

Worn for your first day with VAUGHAN's iconic white silk button up, this look is equal parts fashion and function – without forgetting about femininity, too. Easily mixed and matched with alternating separates throughout the season, this affordable suit perfectly underpins the power of unconventional colouring with matching accessories in a matching pink hue. In lieu of the classic court heel, I’ve gone for a suede skate shoe which gives a touch of ‘Silicon Valley’ start up youthfulness to the look that is sure to unnerve your contemporaries – and the tortoise shell rimmed sunglasses, well they scream shady!

Broken up with silken separates and luxury footwear, Monday mornings have just become more daring with flashes of colour that are guaranteed to distinguish you among the office tribe.

Get to work – and don’t forget to WERK it, gurl!
