The buzz: 5 micro-trends to watch for February

From politics to party frocks, trend spotting to transitional staples, find out what the VAUGHAN girls are waxing lyrical over for the month ahead…

micro trends for february

1.    Payday purchases

Like that annoying kid in the backseat, we’ve been asking, ‘are we there yet’  for way too long this month - thank god for pay day. Time to treat yo’ self! Just as SS17 lines launch online and in-store we’ve finally got the funds to get our hands on a statement piece that will probably mean we’ll be eating ramen noodles for the next few weeks and counting! One luxury runway piece we couldn’t resist is this Dior honeybee bag from their fresh-off-the-catwalk spring collection. You know how we feel about honeybees, dontcha? Love at first sight – we couldn’t resist…

2.    Kitten heels

Ladies, shelve the stilettos and time warp with us, the ladylike kitten heel is back. Offering a modern reinterpretation of a vintage silhouette, the mid-instep slide on is making serious traction on and off the runway with the likes of Mansur Gavriel and Jimmy Choo stepping up their game with a selection of objet d’art styles for the discerning dresser. One designer turning street style into performance theatre is J.W.Anderson with these angular leather wrap heels. Hepburn honey, eat your heart out.

3.    Logo graphics

Put your money where your mouth is and join your favourite urban tribe as style influencers take sides from Supreme to Dior and everywhere in between. Turning catwalk warfare into a stylish affair, it’s all about ostentatious merch this spring and the Dolce Vita darlings at Gucci are remembering their roots with this retro 80s tee. The biggest sell-out style of the year so far, this postmodernist approach to logo mania has got Instagram influences posting their reinterpretations on repeat with rival front row mavens making love not war – gang signs optional.

4.    Million man march casuals

So, it looks like we’ll be protesting pretty much every week, then? With Trump’s second month in office predicted to be just as controversial as the last, we don’t think we’ll be putting the Sharpies and placards away anytime soon, time to invest in some low-casual wardrobe essentials that can withstand more marches to come. We’re investing in a pair of vintage Levi straight fit jeans from Re/Done that can be creatively combo’d with luscious layers and DIY demonstration tees.

5.    Mix n’ Match

You’re ten minutes past fashionably late and you can only find one goddamn earring. Been there, and we’re guessing, so have some of this season’s biggest designers. SS17 shows were resplendent with odd-ball earrings plucked from the bottom of the jewellery box with the likes of Alexander McQueen and Marni proving creatively eclectic is the only way to wear your earrings this season – even if the truth is that you lost one down the side of the couch after too much Pinot.

It's ok, your secret's safe with us.
